What does this site do?
It presents the registration status of cosmetics companies in readable form. To make or distribute cosmetics in South Korea, a business must register with or notify the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, and the list is public. Korea Cosmetics Safety Information Group counts that list, publishes counts by business type, region and registration year, and states the reference date and counting method alongside the figures.
It currently covers three topics: cosmetics companies in Korea, cosmetics companies by region, and cosmetics labels and company checks. Matters that also require reading the law get separate guides.
Korea Cosmetics Safety Information Group is a private site, not a government agency, and has no connection to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. It does not make or sell cosmetics or recommend companies or products. There are no ads, affiliate links, sign-ups or fees.
Where does the data come from?
Counts come from the cosmetics manufacturer information in the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety: Cosmetics Information dataset, published by the Ministry on Korea’s Public Data Portal. The portal lists the license scope as “no restrictions.” The same registration information can be searched company by company on MFDS Nedrug company search. Both pages are in Korean.
The law was read and rendered from the three statutes below on the National Law Information Center, a Korean-language site: the Cosmetics Act (화장품법), its Enforcement Decree (화장품법 시행령) and its Enforcement Rule (화장품법 시행규칙). All are the versions in force from April 2, 2026.
- The registration list came with 32,927 entries. Lines with the same company serial number and business type (177 entries) were counted once, leaving 32,750 entries.
- Values not in the list, such as totals, shares and ratios, were calculated by us, and the table or text says so.
- Business registration numbers are used only to count dual registrations and are not published. Company names are published only for some of the earliest registrations.
What principles guide the writing?
- The conclusion comes first. The one sentence at the top of a page is its conclusion.
- What the data confirms is kept apart from estimates. Where the registration list gives no reason for a distribution, we say no reason is stated, and any interpretation added is marked as an estimate.
- Sentences on the law give the article number. Nothing outside the articles is written as if it were the law.
- Sentences keep easily confused things distinct: entry counts and company counts, registration dates and founding dates, registered locations and places of manufacture.
- Companies and products are not rated. Registration is never presented as evidence of quality or safety.
Articles are published under the name Korea Cosmetics Safety Information Group Editorial Team. This is not legal advice: when deciding on business registration or labeling duties, follow the original text of the law and the guidance of the competent regional Office of Food and Drug Safety.
When is it updated?
The current figures come from the list retrieved on , whose latest registration date is October 2, 2026. Korea Cosmetics Safety Information Group does not call the public API on each visit. It totals a list retrieved once, stores the result and builds every page from that file.
Summary sentences, tables and charts on data pages are calculated from the stored totals, so a new retrieval changes the numbers and the reference date together. Guides state their reference date under the title.
May I cite the figures?
When citing a count, please name the original source, the public data of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, and the retrieval date. When using a share or ratio not in the list, please also give the page address on Korea Cosmetics Safety Information Group, where it was calculated.
If you need the raw data, you can get it directly from the Public Data Portal. Korea Cosmetics Safety Information Group does not distribute raw data files.
